Piedra River

6" x 8" oil on canvas on board
$100.00 + $10. s/h

This is the third plein air piece I did on the same Durango morning.  I moved to a spot on the Piedra River where I had little bits of occasional sun, but mostly cool and cloudy.  When the light changes, the decision has to be made to make the piece a little sunnier, or a little cloudier.  It's easy to put in both, but the light won't read correctly. This painting was done from about 9 - 10 am.  By 10:15 we had loaded up the car, were headed out, and it started to snow.  That's April weather for you!

Very nice, Pam. I like the palette you chose and your brushstrokes are also nice.

Plein air is always an adventure! Even in Texas we are having cooler temps - but, no snow!

Well, the colors are spring-y, that's for sure! Ah, the challenges of plein air! Even just this little bit of time though, was enough for you to capture this moment on canvas - congratulations!

Wow! Gorgeous Spring palette! The soft peaches and pinks against those strong dark greens is so relaxing. Beautifully painted!

Hah! Had to look to see where you were located and no surprise to see you live in CO. We've had similar disparates of weather here in IL, though generally by now we're past the snow stages. I think we've even had snow as late as May in previous years though. Love the colors you've captured in this piece. The bits of pink keep me interested!

Linda, Thanks so much. I use a more limited plein air palette than I do in the studio.

Thank you so much Cathyann and Kelley for your constant comments. (Isn't that a cup of tea?!)

Gwen, Thank you. That is something that is great about plein air; the ever changing palette!

Thank you Liz, I had 2 1/2 hrs alone in nature, It was paint or take a nap in the car!

Thank you Ralph, Mother Nature does put great color out there for us!

Sherrie, Yes, in Colorado we do have any kind of weather any time of year.

Thank you so much Dennis.

Plein air is quite the challenge, isn't it? Good job. Nice colors. The violets really lead in the eye.
