There always seem to be old trucks on back roads in western states.  It's fun to stop and look at them and take photos.  I always wonder about the history of the trucks...the many years of use, the many years of rust and aging, the drivers and riders who loved these old guys.  This truck was sitting in a field almost in the middle of nowhere.  I'm sure that it was left to sit there years and years ago.

Golden Glow

$100.00 + $10. s/h

As you can see, I paint a lot of Coreopsis.  They are bright, cheerful, colorful and happy looking.  The blooms last a long time.  I love the way the color sings in our backyard!

I'm not really sure what kind of Coreopsis we have.  I googled it and if I look really carefully at the Burpee seed packets, it looks like we have "Golden Glow".  Thus the painting's name!

This is the 3rd, and final, of the coreopsis that I painted from a bouquet in my studio.  Once again, I'm posting an older coreopsis below that was not painted from the studio bouquet.  They have such different yellows, but I'm happy with both of them!

Lasting Summer Color

Lasting Summer Color
6" x 6"  Oil
$100.00 + $10. s/h

This is the 2nd of the series of Coreopsis that I painted in my studio from my backyard bouquet.  Again, I love seeing the difference in the yellows from the studio bouquet (above) and the older paintings done in the backyard sun (below).

I have a couple more to show, then backyard florals may come to a halt as our backyard is pretty sad right now due to last weeks severe hail storm.  We had ping pong size hail, but just 1 mile away the storm produced soft ball size hail!

Repeat Bloom

Repeat Bloom
Oil  6" x 6"

$100. + $10. s/h

I recently painted several Coreopsis that I picked in our backyard.  They were set in a vase in my studio.  I thought it would be easier to paint the blooms right in front of my studio easel with a consistent light as opposed to outside in the yard.

I'm also posting several older Coreopsis that were not painted from a studio still life.  It is so interesting to me the different colors of yellow....one a bit darker with more orange, or cad yellow deep.  The other brighter, lighter from the direct sun.

I'll be posting more over the next few days.

I love having Coreopsis in our garden.  The reseed themselves and grow all over.  If you cut them back they sometimes will repeat the bloom later in the summer.  And, importantly in Colorado, they do well in our dry climate.

Forever Yours, The Land

This past weekend was the Opening of "Forever Yours, The Land" which featured over 60 local artists at installations throughout Colorado Springs.  The exhibit is city-wide and showcases the beauty of our natural surroundings through a variety of art mediums to boost awareness of conservation.

Palmer Land Trust, the sponsor of the event, is a not for profit conservation organization working to protect the places we treasure.  Since 1977, they've helped individuals and communities permanently protect over 80,000 acres of public open spaces, historic farms and ranches, important wildlife habitat, and beautiful scenic vistas.

Above are two of the walls in the Summerland Gardens Upstairs Gallery that Dottie Lirette and I have as part of this event.  Hope that those of you who live in the area can stop by the Gallery from now through September 9th to see what happens when art and nature collide!
