Another Turnip

6" x 8" oil on panel

I painted a piece very similar to this last fall.  As I said at that time, since we've retired, my husband does most of the shopping and cooking.  And, when he came home with these turnips again, I decided I needed to do another daily painting.  I loved the complimentary colors the last time, so I chose the same cloth once again.

The purple and gold are Beautiful together!

Just curious, do you eat the turnips? How do you cook them? I've never had one.

The golden cloth works as a beautiful backdrop to the turnips. Very nice!

I am amazed at how so much beauty is created from such a humble vegetable. I grow these in my plot and yes I do eat them. here in Scotland we so often have them mashed with mashed potato and haggis but they are also wonderful in soup. Thanks pam for showing another way to look at the every day common things.

Quite a lovely handling of the turnips, Pam. For some reason, this morning they are making my hungry indeed!

Thanks r. Yes, we do eat them.. Mashed just like potatoes.

Claire, Thank you. I've used this shawl in many still lifes and love the color.

Thank you Ralph, We just mashed these by themselves...what are haggis?

Autumn, Thank you. You should try some of these.

Pam, I remember this from the fall. It was a beautiful earlier painting, just like this gorgeous one! The colors do it! When we were in Ireland I was amazed to see turnips served with most main courses in restaurants. I expected potatoes, but turnips too? Thanks for your cooking tips. I'll have to try this. I've never cooked a turnip in my life, but they are yummy.

Love the color combo here Pam. It really draws me in. I love this! My Grandmother loved them and they were always a part of Thanksgiving dinner.

Thanks Gwen, The complements do work well for popping!

Nancy, Thank you! Irish turnips...who would know! It should be a new unwritten rule that bloggers who post food, also post recipes. That would be fun!

Thanks Karen, I love purples, violets, lavenders.

Dana, Thank you. Now, try some!

Kristen Thank you. Do you still have turnips for Thanksgiving? What was your Grandmother's heritage?

Cathyann and Dean, Thank you. Color combinations always make a statement, whether set-up purposfully in a still life or chosen by Mother Nature in a landscape.
