Pauline Chapel

8" x 10" oil on gessoed masonite
$195.00 + $10. s/h
SOLD

This is my submission for Lee Brown's A Day Not Wasted blog challenge.  The challenge was to paint Pauline Chapel from a photo he included.  His photo was amazing.  He's a great photographer, artist, and has an incredible blog which includes his paintings, travels, other artists, book reviews.

I have been to this chapel; it's about 1 1/2 - 2 miles from my house!   It's a beautiful chapel in a beautiful setting.  I hope I've done it justice.

Beautiful! I have been to the Broadmoor years ago, so I must have seen it. Also enjoyed seeing the ADNW site - very inspiring.

I'll say you've done it justice... and I've never seen it! This could be one of my all-time favorites of yours! So sensitively rendered, and it just sparkles with light. Really nice, Pam.

Wonderfully painted! The shadowed part of the arch is my favorite part. But then, each time I look at it I have another favorite part. The dappled shadow is so gorgeous. Wish I weren't a starving artist so I could grab it before someone else beats me to it.

Wonderful Pam, you captured the most interesting part of the image with a beautiful crop too!

Thanks Cathyann, Look at Lee's blog...it's great.

Debbi, Thank you. Pauline is right behind the Broadmoor, you may have noticed it.

Thank you Kelley! Lee had a great photo w/ incredible light!

Thanks Gwen, I wanted the shadows to be warm, so more violet than blue, but believable.

Dana, Thank you. My two favorite parts were the steeple and the front door. I liked the angle looking up, so I went w/ the top.

You've totally done it justice...beautiful composition, beautiful temp. changes and dappled light.

You handled this beautifully, Pam. I love how you've dappled the sun and hinted at the bell in the tower. I also tried to do that in my version. I had to leave off the little square above the dome because I wanted to get the cross in and ran out of room! LOL I also like how you made this painting your own with the crop.

Dori, Thank you. I thought cropping focused on such a great part. Every part of this chapel is beautiful!

Thank you Karen, I loved the warm shadows.

Autumn, Thanks. Sometimes everything doesn't fit in to the scene, so we use our artist's license and make it work.

Thank you Dennis. Lee's photo was so great w/ such sharp colors.

Julie, Yes. I had an advantage having been to this chapel.

really nicely done. I've wondered if a composition like this would work and you have prove that it does.
