100 Garden & Floral Oil Paintings, Original Artwork by Pam Holnback, 53/100

Another View of the Garden of the Gods
6" x 8"  Oil on panel
$100.00 + $10. s/h

This is another piece from my morning in the Garden of the Gods last week.  Several people commented that they hadn't heard of the Garden of the Gods, which made me realize that we only know what is around us and what we see on trips.  The Garden of the Gods is the 3rd most visited location in Colorado Springs, along with Pikes Peak and the Air Force Academy, both also pretty spectacular places geologically.

The Garden of the Gods Park has incredible geologic features: ancient sedimentary rock beds of red, blue, purple, and white sandstones, conglomerates and limestone that were deposited horizontally, but have now been tilted vertically.  These shifts and faults were caused by the immense mountain building forces caused by the uplift of the Pike Peak massif.

This is the view from the Garden of the Gods Visitor Center parking lot, with Pikes Peak hidden in the clouds.

The name Colorado is said to come from the color of the sandstone.

Pam, love your work from this, and the previous post. The foreground and grass area is gorgeous, with the many color changes and light and dark areas.

Very scenic! I was in Colorado Springs a couple of years ago but missed this beautiful spot! Now, I'll have to go back!!

The landscape is so varied it seems you could stand in one spot and just turn slightly for another amazing vista. I love seeing your paintings from here!

Pam your work has always been wonderful, but it continues to surprise. You seem particularly inspired!! This is gorgeous!! Love the way you have thought thru how someone enters the painting and moves around to take in all the beauty.

What great brushstrokes on these Garden of the God pieces. It's great how you changed direction when you got to the mountains. I actually have been to the Garden of the Gods and it is really beautiful.

Nancy, Thank you. I was lucky w/ the light that day, the clouds made it work so well!

Thank you Katherine, Next time you're here you must add this to you list!

Debbi, Thank you! Composition, getting someone into your painting, and then staying in there is part of the puzzle of painting.

Thank you Linda. I thought it helped to add the photos.

Kelley, Thanks. Just want to share a bit of the west!

Amazing edges (in both of these Garden of the Gods pieces)!! I love the contrast from the front to the mountains in back...makes them just pop.

Thank you Dana, Sometimes pieces just about paint themselves!

Karen, Thanks. So glad that you noticed the edges. I've been thinking about them a lot. And, it was a cloudy day, so the contrast was there.
