Alau Island, Maui, Hawaii

Alau Island
6" x 8" Oil
$100.00 + $10. s/h

My husband and I just got back from 3 weeks on Maui.  It was my first trip to Hawaii and I hope not my last!  No wonder so many people talk about, love and visit Hawaii!!  Those of you who have been following my blog for awhile know that we love to travel and take advantage of every opportunity we have.  The weather was perfect for plein air painting.  I was so easy to enjoy the gorgeous scenery, to sit and relax, hike, go to the beach, whale watch, snorkel and paint!  I'll be sharing my paintings and photos in my upcoming blog posts.

You can see dirt and sand on this piece from its' fall.  I waited for it to dry and brushed them all off.  Part of the fun of plein air painting!

I want to thank everyone for all the comments on the blogs I posted while we were away.  I pre-posted them as I knew that we wouldn't always have access to internet.  I'll start commenting back on yours now that I'm back.

This is about where we set up to paint, on a bay just south of Hana.

I was amazed by the lava coastline and the incredible, pounding surf on this side of the island.

This banyan tree is in Haleakala National Park.  It's size was unbelievable.  And roots/trunk!

I too, think Hawaii is a special place. I remember our time seeing that black lava field... Just awesome.
Did you get a chance to go out to where the lava is falling in to the sea??

Love my visits to your blog and your art.
Be well.. Looking forward to seeing more of your Hawaiian adventure.

Wow, you've done a great job of painting Hawaii. I haven't been there in a number of years but this is as I remember it. 3 weeks in Hawaii sound wonderful to me about this time of year when we've had 3 days of rain.

Debbi, thank you. Yes, the scenery was incredible!

Thank you Marian. We saw lots of lava rocks, went to the top of Haleakala Volcano. But the live volcano is on another island. Maybe we'll have a chance to get there, too!

Nancy, thanks so much. We're not having rain, just cold here, so we're always glad to get away int he winter.

Thank you Dori. That definately describes it...paradise!

Hilda, Thank you. I'd never been there, either and it is truly gorgeous. Maui had distinct differences on each side of the island.

Thank you Michelle. Some vacations and trips lend themselves more to painting than others. This one was long enough that we had lots of relaxing time where I could paint.

Sylviane, Thank you. It was a wonderful trip!

What really strikes me about the photos (I've never been to HI either) is the gorgeous colors. The black coastline against that sea of blue is just stunning! So glad you had a wonderful vacation!

Hawaii, oh wow Pam, I am really jealous now. I like the vibrant colors you used on this one, transports the viewer to someplace tropical.

Thank you Michael. I think it 's fun to share a trip w. the painting. It helps draw the viewer in to know a bit more.

Sherry, thank you. The colors and landscape in parts of Maui were very dramatic.

Thanks so much Amy. We loved being someplace tropical. Such a difference from dry, arid Colorado!

Love the Maui painting! Travel always presents an invitation to look better, closer, fresher. Looks like you accepted that invitation! The sand on the canvas is a bonus.
