This is another plein air piece from late summer.  I guess I've been slow to post.  My plein air group was invited to a home of "gardeners".  Their yard and gardens were spectacular!

Sand Shovel

There's always something to be done around a yard and garden.  A sand shovel has a flat bottom which makes it better for shoveling gravel and, of course, sand!  We use it to for our gravel walkways.  When our kids were little we used it to shovel sand into the sand box.

Sand Shovel

I saw this shovel when out painting with my plein air group.  It was an overcast day and there was no strong dark and light on the sand or shovel, but I loved the rust.  This was a good reminder to stick with the values, and the rest would come.

We're putting in another flower garden, or, should I say taking out more grass.  Either way, we've spent the last few days building a rock wall, moving all the compost from the other side of the yard, raking the compost, hauling dirt, and then raking the dirt.  I couldn't resist painting the rake!
