This morning I was up and out in the backyard early. I wasn't going to be deterred by too much sun. The sun was filtering in and out of the leaves which created cool light and shadow, as well as warm spots. A fun and challenging time of day. Although, plein-aire light is always fun, challenging, and constantly changing. I find this really makes me look, and quickly put down my color notes.

I'm on a crappy computer and this painting is still beautiful! You did right by getting out before the sun got too hot. I think I see a series coming....

Pam, I like this one even more than the last. Gorgeous colors in the petals and they are so harmonious with the background.

I'm crazy about that little bud hidden between the flowers! And the composition is very nice!

Debbi, thanks..I think it's always a fun challenge mixing those "grays".

Kelley, I've got to paint quickly for a series. We've only got a few good buds left on the plants!

Karen, A color complement coming from you is an honor!

I love hollyhocks, especially against a white picket fence. You have done my favorite flower justice in this painting.

I find whites in light and shadow such a challenge! Here I think you've got it right on, because it reads as light and shadow, not as paint.

Bill & Lisa, Thanks. I also love hollyhocks. I wish they lasted just a little bit loner.

Karen, Thanks. I always so appreciate you complements.

Nancy, The light that day made the colors so soft. Thanks.
