100 Garden & Floral Oil Paintings, Original Artwork by Pam Holnback, 45/100

Corn on the Cob
6" x 8" oil on board
$100.00 + $10. s/h

These ears of corn are really fun.  If I wasn't doing a personal challenge, I might not have tried to paint them.
I had a question in my comments about the blue that I used for the recent blueberry paintings.  I mixed cobalt and ultramarine blues, grayed that mixture in varying amounts with cad red light, and added white.

Maybe it is because I hold farmers in such absolute high regard, but somehow this looks truly romantic, Pam. The softness, the point of view, the blowy/wispy leaves, and the softer, buttery yellows...Truly a lovely piece from a country girl at heart.

Yes, I agree with AutumnLeaves. Your corn does look romantic. When I clicked on the picture, I was amazed by how ethereal your painting was. Ahhhhhh.

So luxurious, and lush! Words that you would never associate with corn. Congrats for making it happen!

Thank you everybody for all of your corny comments! (I just had to say that!)

Sherry, Thank you!! I am so honored by all of your adjectives. I am not a country girl. Just a true lover of corn!

Thank you Janelle, I think of you as the true ethereal painter. So glad you think it's romantic. Wonder what my husband thinks!

Debbi, Thank you. I was hesitant to paint this, partly shucked and all. bit, maybe due to my love of corn, it fell together!

Thanks Kim. I find when I paint really close up it does become a bit abstract!

Nancy, Thank you!! I'm going to use those words in a title!

This is really great Pam! Down this way we call them by their Afrikaans name, mielie, pronounced meelee, a staple of a large proportion of our population! (A bit of useless information!)

Thank you Carrie,I wanted a personal challenge, and gardening seemed right up my alley!

Gary, Thank you. I am having fun w/ it! Not sure how long it will take,,,but onward I march!

Thank you Dusty, Corn is great when it's just picked!

Linda, Thank you. I sometimes debate about differing the brushwork from the background to the main object.

Liz, Thanks for that info. Maybe I'll use mielie in a title.

Really like the pink peaking through in the painting. What challenge but very successful.

Karen, Yes, slowly but surely I'm getting there! This personal challenge is good. It's made me really look around me.

Thank you Kelley, I had never before painted corn. I like the challenge!

Irit, Thank you so much. I like it, too!

Thank you Mary Ann, I did have fun w/ them. And, I could feel that.

Love the golden yellow next to the violet. You've also done such a good job on the layered husks. Beautiful work!
