Glen Eyrie Paint Out

Glen Eyrie Cliffs
11" x 14" oil on RayMar panel
$295.00 + $10. s/h

Yesterday I participated in a Paint Out at Glen Eyrie Castle here in Colorado Springs.  Glen Eyrie was built by William Palmer, the founder of Colorado Springs.  He created it to look like a castle (it has 22 rooms) so that his English wife would feel at home.  Sadly, her poor heart did not make living at 6,000 feet easy, so she spent most of her time on the east coast and in England.  It was built on 800 acres and sits next to what is now the Garden of the Gods.  Today, Glen Eyrie is a conference and retreat center and is no longer as accessible to the public as it once was. I was thrilled to have the chance to paint there and want to thank Gary Bradley for all of his organizational work.

The weather yesterday was warm and cloudy.  The rolling clouds caused constant light change.  So that I would not spend hours chasing the light, I put the light in first, which is the opposite of my usual landscape technique.  In this case it was the right way to go.  RayMar donated the panels for the event.  I love the texture on these boards.

Wow this is gorgeous. Smart thinking about putting the lights in first. Love the grandeur you have created and the colors. Great job!

Pam, the colors in this are magnificent. We have had such unpredicable weather this summer, and I have found myself blocking in the light areas first when I plein air paint - in seconds those clouds roll in and take all of the bright light :(

Thank you Debbi, With the light changing so continuously I had to catch it, and keep it!

Claire, thank you. Mother nature keeps us on our toes w/ the weather!

Natalie, Thanks. The light just made the rocks glow!

Thank you Nancy, We've had strange weather lately with incredible cloud formations.!

Theresa, Thank you. I find w/ plein air work I have to be quick and just put the color on...thus the loose brushstrokes.

Sherry, Thank you. Love your words..."glorious snapshot" I'm golng to remember that! Could be a good title.

Thank you Karen, Reflected light is so interesting when the viewer can't see where the reflections come from.

Janice. Thanks. Yes, it was a great day. Hopefully you can come next year.
