Colorado rivers and streams are much smaller than rivers in other parts of the country. But the smallness gives them more color, values, reflections, surface changes. I remember once someone saying that the Amazon boat trip they went on was boring because you couldn't see anything; the river is so wide in parts that you saw only water on both sides. Not so here!

Pam,
Really like the way you painted the river- wonderful reflection of the tree. River also has movement in it that is fabulous.
I was thinking that this was a beautifully impressionistic piece and I see when I get to the bottom of the post that it is tagged thusly. Quite a lovely landscape, Pam!
The water really seems to glitter in this painting, Pam.. nicely done!
I bet your husband is a fly fisherman! There's quite an art to that I hear.
You have a way with sparkling mountain streams. The sunlight and colors you capture are grand.
La lumière qui vient gourmander votre toile la rend sublime et sereine et vous invite à la paresse...

I like seeing the directional brushstrokes you've used in this piece. Nice! The water sparkles.
Kathy, Thank you. Rivers lend themselves to painting, brushstrokes and movement.
Thank you Sherri, Welcome back. I've always loved the Impressionists. W/ the small daily paintings it's so easy to paint in that style.
Kelley, thanks. Appreciate that coming from you who lives right in front of incredible water!
Thank you Shirley, As every teacher I've ever had, and every master has said, the colors and light are there, just put them down.
Merci Martine, J'aine coleur et lumiere.
Thank you Katherine, You certainly know water. It is directional, just like brushstrokes!
Pam, well done! Beautiful impressionistic color and light!
Pam, This looks almost abstract! I love it!
A really beautiful painting. Love those reflections and wonderful colours.
I love the loose brushwork and all of the incredible color in this, Pam. It's beautiful!
oooo shimmery! Beautiful and sparkly piece!
Pam...a lovely landscape today.
Thank you Lori, Color and Light would make a great name for a future piece!
Nancy, Thank you. You're right. It does have that feel.
Liz, Thank you. It is true that when you paint something that you know and love, your piece reflects that.
Thank you Claire!!
