This is my submission to Gary Keimig's monthly Wilderness Art Challenge.  I've painted buffalo in the past as there are several herds nearby, so this was a fun painting.  If you haven't seen Gary's art or any of his 4 blogs, check them out!

This is wonderful. You got the movement, the values, the real feeling of buffalo!

Pam, I waw the photo on Gary's blog and you did a marvelous job!! The soft colors in the background nicely contrast the rough and tough buffalo. And great value contrast like Kelley said.

I also think this painting has great impact. Its your use of colour in the animal's coat that I find wonderful.

Great job Pam! I'm amazed at the depth and mass you were able to render on such a compact canvas.

Kelley, Thank you! These are incredible creatures when you see them in the wild.

Thank you Debbi, Sometimes the right color contrast is right there in front of you.

Bridget, Thank you. When you squint the color jumps right out.

Thank you Sheila, These bison are also great to paint large, like they are.

Edward, Thanks for your kind works.

Sherrie, Thank you. Since this was a winter photo reference, the grass colors were soft and contrasting.

Thank you Elizabeth! What a great adjective for such an animal.

I love this buffalo! The feeling of the wild west is really there! Very dynamic and expressive!

Amy, Thank you, His scruffy coat lends itself to looseness!

Samantha, Thank you so much for visiting my blog!

Linda, Thank you. All the buffalo I've seen appear to move so slowly, just wander and eat. However, I understand that they can charge!

Yes, Nancy, Sometimes I'm a western gal!

Gosh, you did such a great job on this! Love that dark blue with the reds and yellows. The rough style fits the subject perfectly.

Great use of color and I like how you've handled the edges! I also like the under toning showing through!
